Swedish Massage: Is the most common kind of massage and refers to long relaxing strokes that are generally applied by the hand with oil or lotion to lessen friction. Swedish massage stimulates the skin and nervous system while at the same time relaxing the nerves themselves. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissue of lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic wastes. It improves circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons, keeping them supple
Deep Tissue Massage: is a very specific massage technique used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscle tissues and fascia. Deep Tissue therapists look for shortened muscles and/or distorted postural patterns. Deep Tissue Massage can increase range of motion by loosening the bonds between the layers of connective tissues. This technique includes the use of elbows, fists and forearms placed strategically on the muscles in a firm and aggressive matter to widen and lengthen the muscle fibers until the muscles release which restores balance. This method can seem painful to some people.
Chair Massage: A short (5-15 minute) massage of a client sitting in a special, portable massage chair. The client remains fully clothed and no oils or lotions are used while their shoulders, neck, upper back, head and arms are massaged.
Table-Shiatsu: A traditional Shiatsu massages is done fully clothed and on the floor. Whereas a table-shiatsu is normally done fully clothed and performed on the massage table while incorporating other techniques. Shiatsu is a massage done using compression, acupressure points and stretching techniques based on opening of the bodies energy meridians.
Foot Reflexology: is a technique of manipulating the feet in order to improve circulation, ease pain, and increase relaxation in the body. Reflexology is based on the theory that all body parts, organs, and glands are associated with specific areas, called reflex zones, in the feet, hands, ears, and surface of the skin. By manipulating the reflex zones, changes can be effected in the corresponding body part. Reflexology is generally focused on the feet because of the vast amount of nerve endings.
Sports Massage: Is used pre-event to warm and awaken muscles and to enable the athlete to train and perform more consistently at a higher level. Lighter Sports Massage is used post-event to cleanse the lactic acid build up from the muscles and to oxygenate the tissue and speed up recovery time.
